SOME FUNDRAISING NEWS:

1. “GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER?”  This programme involves hosts who open their homes to others by putting on a dinner (or lunch, or a breakfast or brunch) to encourage fellowship and at the same time, benefit of the church’s treasury. The hosts prepare the meal at their own cost and invite the number of guests they can accommodate. The guests pay to attend the meal and these payments are donated to the church.  The hosts do not know “Who’s Coming to Dinner?”, only the organizers and guests  know who’s attending.  Keith and Nancy Thatcher are organizing these gatherings and they are looking for hosts. Please help Nancy and Keith make this endeavour a success.   CLICK on the following link for a sample poster which is intended to help advertise your event.     http://wasagapresbyterian.ca/files/2010/10/WBCPC-Guess-Who’s-Coming-to-Dinner-Poster.doc
If you require assistance please call Nancy or Keith at the telephone number or e-mail address included in the above link.

2. The “VISTA PROGRAMME”
is an opportunity to support our church while you shop. The way it works is; you select from a list of particpating stores, restaurants, etc., the business(es) of your choice that you wish to purchase “gift cards” from.  These cards can be used for your own personal shopping or gifts for friends and relatives. Orders for these cards are taken monthly and depending on the business involved, a commission of 2% to 10% is paid to the church. For full details please contact Toots Arnold at 429-8394.

 MISSION-RELATED NEWS:

“CREATIVE HANDS”
The group started by making Prayer Shawls (to show prayer, concern and comfort to those going through difficult times) and by making crocheted Milk Bag Mats that are shipped to third world countries (through the Christian Children Ministries) and Pneumonia Prevention Vests (that are sent through WMS to Jobat, India) to keep newborn babies’ chests warm to prevent pneumonia.

The group has since branched out to also knit Chemo Hats (that are taken to Gilda’s Club in Barrie) as well as Baby Hats and Izzy Dolls, which are also sent to Jobat for the doctors and nurses distribute to small children in hospital or when they make home visits.

With changes in WMS’s financial priorities and the cost of shipments, many of these ministries have been stopped.   Pneumonia Prevention Vests, baby hats and Izzy dolls no longer have a way of getting to their destinations, so our priorities have evolved as well.

We do make Prayer Shawls (for those in our congregation and those connected to our congregation) and Chemo Hats (they now go to the Cancer Centre in Barrie [RVH] as well as Gilda’s Club).   We make fewer Milk Bag Mats as they are very hard on our hands and our last batch went with Baxter Living Faith (Presbyterian Church) in Baxter as they had a shipment that was going Sierra Leone.

The Creative Hands Group is also using time each month to work on items for the Holly Berry Tea which happens each November. These crafts are varied in genre and we always welcome new ideas, new knitters and those who crochet, sew or like to make crafts.  We also accept donations of wool or financial support to purchase wool.

The group meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Wednesday and we almost always have tea and a cookie as well.  Feel welcome to drop in and join us, any Wednesday.
